Memento Polo - An encounter between privilege, power and mortality.
A polo player astride his pony swings his mallet not at a ball, but at a crystal skull - transforming a game of aristocratic prestige into a surreal meditation on the human condition. Inspired by the Latin expression memento mori - “remember that you must die” - Memento Polo confronts the illusion of control that accompanies power, wealth and status. The crystal skull becomes an unconventional opponent: beautiful, fragile and eternal in its symbolism, it reminds us that beneath the rituals of competition and the pursuit of victory, we are all playing the same game against time. The polo field becomes a metaphor for life itself. We chase our ambitions, celebrate our triumphs and convince ourselves that the next victory will mean something more. Yet mortality remains the one opponent no amount of privilege can defeat. With its unexpected collision of equestrian tradition, dark humour and philosophical symbolism, Memento Polo invites the viewer to question the nature of success - and whether we are truly in control of the game we are playing.
After all, the final score is the one nobody gets to choose.
